At that point what are you rooting/watching for?


Ok if you watch college football because you like to see very good players play the game, then I guess it doesn't matter. But if that is the case I can suggest a place where the very best compete against each other, its called the NFL.

I think most people watch college football because it isn't the NFL (not to say they can't or don't enjoy professional football as well). They watch because they have a rooting interest in a team or teams because there is a special connection for them. It's their alma matter, their spouse's alma matter, their parents, children, siblings... went there.

They are watching to see amateur sports that is (supposedly) driven by something other than money - we have professional leagues for that.

What you suggest, may be where we end up, but at that point it loses all meaning and relationship to college athletics.
